As of September 29, 2026, health plans start at $27,900 per month (Iké, Emergencies plan) and $36,932 per month (Omint Mascotas, plan 1500 for members). With home insurance, your pet is part of your home policy: San Cristóbal lists Hogar Premium from $90,000 per month, and Sancor quotes based on your home.
What's the difference between a pet health plan and pet insurance?
A health plan, like Iké or Omint Mascotas, covers vet care: emergency care and, depending on the plan, checkups, vaccines and surgery. The pet coverage in a home insurance policy, like Sancor's or San Cristóbal's, covers the unexpected, such as accidents or theft, and comes with your home insurance.
Is there a health plan or HMO for pets?
Yes, that's what people call pet health plans like Iké or Omint Mascotas: you pay a monthly fee and use a network of vets. They're not insurance, but assistance and health plans.
Do they cover pre-existing conditions?
Omint Mascotas has a plan, the 8510, designed for pets with pre-existing conditions. The other companies don't publish how they handle them, so ask before you sign up.
Is there a maximum age to sign up?
Iké's Emergencies plan is for pets of any age, and its Senior plan is for pets over 7. The other companies don't publish a maximum entry age: confirm it when you ask.
Do they work nationwide?
Iké has over 300 vet providers across the country. Omint Mascotas works in Greater Buenos Aires. With Sancor and San Cristóbal, your pet's coverage goes with your home insurance.
What is a waiting period?
It's the number of days that must pass after you sign up before you can use some services. In the health plans on this page they range from 30 to 150 days depending on the service, so it's best to sign up before you need it.
Is insurance mandatory for my dog?
There's no national requirement. In the City of Buenos Aires, Law 4078 requires owners of dogs considered potentially dangerous (for example pit bulls, rottweilers, dogo argentinos, dobermans or German shepherds) to have liability insurance. If that's your case, ask the advisor which policy works for you.
Do you sell these plans?
No. We show what each company publishes, and you sign up with Silvana Massey, a licensed insurance advisor. Getting coverage is not required to book a sitter.
Is this the same as the vet assistance included in bookings?
No. The vet assistance included in bookings covers accidents during that stay, up to a cap. These plans cover your pet all year round.
